When the first cordage, ancestor of today’s Edelweiss® ropes was produced in Austria, the sport Alpinism was in its infancy, the date is 1790 and Mont Blanc has recently been climbed for the first time. The needs of this new and real Alpine culture were met by Edelweiss in 1935 when it produced its first mountaineering rope. Then in 1953 Edelweiss innovation resulted in the first “kernmantle” rope i.e. a rope made of separate core and sheath, this construction is now used for all mountaineering ropes.It is a long and hard way to the top.
